Mud Dobbers in Violin

This is a first for me! This is a nice Mittenwald violin that was kept in an old house. I guess someone decided to use it for their house or multi storied apartments!!!
Tradition has it that if a rattlesnake rattle is kept inside the fiddle, then it will keep dirt dobbers, spiders and the devil away. Not sure about the devil or spiders, but in this case, the rattle did not keep the dirt dobbers away. Makes you want to close your case and make sure it is sealed tight! :-)
